Destiny Davenport (9) and Charlie Russell (9) begin their high school career as leaders of their grade. The two went to White Station Middle together and were already a productive team before they ran for class officer positions at White Station High.
“When I found out that Charlie was running too, I knew that we already worked well together,” Davenport said. “Me and Charlie used to take classes together last year and we did group projects.”
Davenport had been looking forward to her high school experience and knew that running for officer could help make her experience better for her and her peers.
“I have a lot of ideas,” Davenport said. “I used to think about stuff I wanted to see when I got to high school.”
As first year students, some freshmen may not feel as represented as other grades. Davenport’s goal as class officer is to ensure that they are seen and heard.
“I want to do the best I can to give my class the privileges I feel that we deserve,” Davenport said.
Russell ran for class officer because he believes he knows many different kinds of people in his grade, which could help him relate to his peers and help others during his time as an officer.
“I have a really diverse group of friends,” Russell said. “I can reach a lot of people.”
Russell’s main goal is to make freshman year as enjoyable as possible for the class of 2027.
“I want to make ninth grade better,” Russell said. “I want to make sure everyone’s happy.”
