It’s just beginning to feel like fall. The leaves are falling and turning to brown and red hues, the air is getting chilly, and the sun is setting far earlier than usual. White Station has recognized this turn of season, as it does every year, with the Run/Walk for Sparta race and the Fall Festival for clubs and organizations.

Students, parents, and faculty alike came out to the school for an afternoon of school spirit. Many clubs were present to collect funds and to contribute to the ever-increasing Spartan spirit.

“We use these funds to help offset the costs of competition,” stated Elaine Lee (11) of the Science National Honors Society.

The Humane Society, DECA, White Station Varsity Cheer, and the Science Department were among the many clubs that return year after year.

“It’s so cool to see all the different clubs and who’s in them, because I don’t really get to see the faces of the people who run certain clubs,” said Lee.

The event really began when members of JROTC marched out into the street to present the flags. Key of She and Do Re He, the school’s award-winning a capella groups, then sang their arrangement of the National Anthem, and the race thus commenced. Faculty, parents, students, and even runners not associated with White Station took to the streets of the neighborhood surrounding the school.

The rest of the festival consisted of laughter, music, and spirits as the chilly autumn day rolled onward. Later in the afternoon, activities ceased and everyone trucked back to their cars to continue with their days. Nonetheless, it was a great day at White Station, a day of tradition and celebration.
