After 5 successful rounds of city competition,  the White Station mock trial team advanced to state competition. After defeating St. Mary’s Episcopal School on Tuesday, February 11th, the team qualified for state competition for the first time in 6 years. The team will now participate in state competition in Nashville, Tennessee.

Mock trial practices in preparation for district competition took place 3 times a week for 2-3 hours.  Over the course of district competition, the mock trial team has competed against high schools all over Memphis, such as Christian Brothers High School and Westminster Academy.

Neha Larson (12), who is captain of the mock trial team and has been on the team for 4 years, will be able to go to state competition in her last year of high school.

“I’m really proud of the team this year, and I’m so grateful to have a chance to go to state,” Larson said. “Beating Westminster and St. Mary’s felt good, since they were our kind-of rivals, and it just shows how much we’ve grown as a team and how dedicated we really are.”

Nya Goble (9), a first-year double witness for the team, will also be traveling to state competition.

“The best part about this experience is definitely getting to know the team and getting to be creative with my witness roles.” Goble said. 

Aditi Mishra (9) is a first-year attorney for the team.

“It’s really daunting being a lawyer as a first-year, but I got to work with a lot of people on the team to become better and understanding what the law really is,” Mishra said. “I’m just really happy that I got to be on the team, and I’m really excited for state competition.”
