Many grew up watching the iconic roles of Phoebe, Chandler, Rachel, Ross, Monia and Joey. Now, however, fans looking to rewatch their favorite sitcom Friends must look further than Netflix.

With the new year right around the corner, Friends is set to be removed from Netflix, forcing viewers to stream the iconic sitcom elsewhere.

Originally announced in July 2019, WarnerMedia will revoke Netflix’s rights to broadcast the series in December 2019, lending the rights to their own streaming service, HBO Max. Many Netflix users and Friends enthusiasts are angry and frustrated with the decision to remove the show from the popular platform.

“Oh yeah I was furious,” Ben Nganga (11) said when asked how he responded to the show’s removal.

Viewers like Nganga weren’t the only ones left heartbroken by Netflix’s decision to remove Friends. There were many others, including Netflix itself.

Friends has long been one of the most profitable shows on Netflix and has racked up millions of dollars in profit for the platform since Netflix bought the streaming rights in 2015. Analysts have dubbed the series as one of the most streamed shows on the platform, and its removal from Netflix will have a large effect on the service’s total revenue.

As Friends is pulled from Netflix to be added to the new streaming service HBO Max, many wonder if there will be more shows taken away and more streaming platforms to enter the scene. Viewers are concerned that soon their favorite shows will all be living under different roofs. Certainly, watching one’s favorite TV shows would become an issue if they can only be found in separate streaming services.

“I was considering buying it on DVD from Target, but it was like $100,” Annie Wilford (10), a Netflix user and Friends fan, said after learning about the removal of the show from Netflix.
