Sleigh ride to White Station’s holiday concert

The Intermediate Orchestra and Advanced Honors Orchestra combined forces to play two traditional holiday finale pieces. They performed “We Need a Little Christmas” as well as a “Mother Ginger” from the play “The Nutcracker.”

The discord of instruments tuning slowly turned into a melodious harmony, resonating through the White Station auditorium.

On Dec. 9, the Intermediate Orchestra and Advanced Honors Orchestra put on a holiday concert consisting of classical pieces as well as traditional holiday music.

Starting off, the Intermediate Orchestra, led by Shelby Wordlaw (12), performed “Spin, Dreidel, Spin” arranged by A. Babczynski followed by “Fantasia on Greensleeves” arranged by Deborah Baker Monday.

Then, the Advanced Honors Orchestra took the stage with solo performances by Ashley Faber (12) and Katie Sann (12) and cello continuos by Alan Lopez (12) and Mikyhia Worsham (12) in “Concerto Grossa in G minor, Op. 6, No. 8” by Arcangelo Corelli. They then performed a tribute to “Frozen,” followed by the famous “Sleigh Ride.”

Musicians that auditioned and made it into the All-West Tennessee Honors Orchestra and All-State Tennessee Honors Orchestra were recognized for their hard work.

The concert ended with both orchestras joining together to perform “Mother Ginger” from “The Nutcracker” and “ We Need a Little Christmas” from “Mame.”

Even though there were some slight mistakes here and there, the concert was, without a doubt, a treat to everyone in the audience.

“I thought the concert ran super smoothly, and I especially loved the Corelli and the solos,” principal bassist, Anjali Gahlaut (11) said.
