Spartans place at the Wordsmith competition
This previous weekend, the Spartans travelled to the University of Memphis for a Wordsmith competition. Wordsmith consists of four events: the 120 word dash, the 80 word dash, the 40 word dash, and the 400 word dash.
In the 120 word dash, participants have about 120 words to write a persuasive letter to the editor with one of the given articles. In the 80 word dash, participants have about 80 words to describe a given picture. In the 40 word dash, participants have about 40 words to describe a given object. Finally, if you place in any of the above events, you’re invited to participate in the 400 word dash, which can be any kind of prompt.
Many Spartans placed in their division. Maya Sax (12) received an honorable mention for the 120 word dash, Jillian Maxwell (10) won third place in the 40 word dash, and Mandy Cassius (9) also placed.
Congratulations to our Spartans on the Wordsmith team!
