The White Station High School baseball team is gearing up for an exciting season. Brody Haire (11), Dominick Barconia (11) and Noah Johnson (11) found their passion as well as their teammates’ passion for the game and hopes for the season.
Even from an early age, a large number of players on the baseball team developed a connection to the sport. Their passion for the game has continued growing since childhood, shaping their skills and love for baseball.
“Around the first time I ever started [playing baseball] was around 5 or 6 [years old],” Johnson said. “I just love playing the sport and the people I play with.”
Team members have already shown a great deal of trust in each other. They help each other out with rides and even meet up after school and practice hours. Many athletes on the baseball team see themselves going far during the season; the team members recognize the potential within each other. This unwavering faith in one another creates a powerful bond, driving them to support and uplift each other on their journey.
“[The current baseball team] is cool; we got a good team together; we all work together, [and] we all pick each other up [when down],” Haire said. “We all have good chemistry, and it’s like a family.”
The baseball team radiates high confidence, fully convinced of their ability to succeed against their opponents. They spend most of their week working around four hours alongside one another, honing their abilities and reinforcing their trust in most of themselves. This teamwork has played a crucial role in solidifying their faith in their potential.
“I feel like we can roll with some of the top teams like Arlington and Houston and teams like that,” Johnson said. “As long as we keep sticking to [working] throughout the season.”
According to many members of the baseball team, they feel that the sport offers them valuable opportunities for personal development in various areas of their lives. They see baseball not just as a game, but as a platform for growth and self-improvement, highlighting the impact that the sport can have even beyond the field.
“[My motivations for playing baseball] are growing as a leader, learning valuable skills and becoming a better man,” Haire said.
The baseball team has played a few matches so far, including games against schools such as Munford High School, Briarcrest Christian School and Central High School. The baseball team has taken the time to contemplate areas for enhancement. Their discussions have sparked insights into strategies and skills that could elevate their performance on the field. This reflection has led to a deeper understanding of their strengths and weaknesses, paving the way for targeted improvements in their gameplay.
“Some of the games we had good chemistry, and we were playing off of each other,” Barconia said. “We just know we have to play together as one in games, and as the games keep going we’re going to keep getting better.”
Overall, the majority of the baseball team harbors ambitious aspirations, both individually and collectively. Each player is driven by a strong desire to excel. Their confidence in their abilities and in each other sets the stage for a season filled with promise and potential. All that is left is to see how it plays out for the rest of the year.
“I want to see myself improve [and] become more comfortable in my position,” Haire said. “I want to see us grow as a team.”
