Best of Memphis- Restaurants for Students

Taco Truck

If you’ve ever seen a bright orange trailer on the corner of Summer and Perkins Extended, it’s the taco truck.  Fresh 99 cent tacos make for the perfect afterschool snack.  Try the horchata, a Mexican drink made from rice water and cinnamon.

Super Submarine Sandwich Shop

You’ve probably heard this place referred to simply as “the Chinese Sub Shop.”  The old location on Highland was adorned with an iconic sign of a woman holding a giant sub sandwich.  They have since moved to a nicer facility a couple blocks over.  Although they also serve regular Chinese food, their subs will always be a classic.

La Michaocana

La Michaocana is best known for their interesting ice cream flavors – their selection ranges from exotic fruit, corn, and Mexican caramel, to the classic chocolate and vanilla. La Michaocana’s original location was on Summer, but the Mexican ice-cream store has since expanded to Cordova and Lakeland.  La Michaocana’s homemade popsicles are also popular. They come in a variety of flavors, including sprinkles, avocado and watermelon.

Bryant’s

Bryant’s is a diner-style breakfast restaurant.  They serve southern breakfast food, and they’re famous for their fluffy biscuits and thick cut bacon.

Cozy Corner

Located on the corner of North Parkway and Manassas, don’t let the modest appearance of Cozy Corner fool you.  This family-owned business serves some of the best barbecue in Memphis.  Despite being recognized by national publications like Business Week and Southern Living, Cozy Corner’s food remains affordable.  Try the ribs!

Asiana Garden

Memphis doesn’t have a huge selection of ethnic food, but if you’re looking for Korean barbecue, Asiana Garden is the place to go.  All of their dishes come with a traditional platter of kimchi, or pickled cabbage.  Try the dark bulgogi (barbecue chicken) or kimchi jigae (spicy kimchi soup).
