Winter fashion

The weather is changing and so are fashion trends. Now the constant question is what is more important: style or comfort? The answer is both, with emphasis on style.

But how do you stay warm and still look nice? Layers, layers, layers.

Whether it’s a t-shirt under a classic flannel or a blouse with a tank top underneath, layering always helps your outfit look more together. Another benefit of layering is being able to take them off when you get too warm.

Trendy outerwear includes denim, military, and bomber jackets. In addition, a new trend is breaking out in the fashion world: faux fur coats. However, the winter season would not be complete without sweaters.

How can you tell when your sweater is too much? Sophomore Mazzy Gintz said, “When it’s 3D and things look like they are popping out of your chest, don’t do it!”

When a small pattern is repeated over and over, it tends to give the appearance of being three-dimensional, which can be incredibly distracting. Certain colors also emphasize this negative effect, such as blue on top of red. Not all colors are meant for sweaters. Neutrals and colors of the season combined with a basic pattern are your best bet for a nice sweater.

What are this season’s colors? Black and white are incredibly in. They are classic and classy. It’s okay to combine different black and white patterns. Anne Donahue of the Huffington Post said, “Mix, match, and be fearless about both!” Polka-dots and stripes can play well together, so let them.

While bright colors are also in, winter requires calmer color tones, so dig through your closet for your soft, summer pastels. Besides those general schemes, three colors that you will see over and over again throughout the season are burgundy red, royal blue, and emerald green. These colors match well with trendy gold accessories.

Regular dark-wash denim jeans are timeless. Additionally, patterned or colored matchstick pants or tights under solid skirts are definitely in this season. If patterned pants are too much for you, try solid pants with fun crew socks underneath.

Toss on some combat boots over your crazy socks. Other trendy shoes include desert boots and Vans. Also, slipper shoes for the girls.

All you need now is a knit beanie, and you are ready to face the winter season fashionably and comfortably.
