Rise of Fall TV
Fall isn’t just a time for colorful leaves and school breaks—it’s also a time for new TV shows to debut and old ones to return.
One of the many new shows of the season is a FOX network comedy called “Brooklyn Nine-Nine”, which aired on September 24. The show follows the antics of a group of NYPD detectives as they solve crimes and adjust to their new captain.
The pilot episode introduced Jake Peralta, a comical detective who successfully solves crimes in spite of his childish shenanigans. Peralta competes to make a higher number of arrests than Detective Amy Santiago, his more disciplined co-worker. Peralta’s carefree spirit also clashes with the stern, new captain Ray Holt in a series of entertaining confrontations.
With conflicting personalities and a variety of colorful characters, “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” promises to bring plenty of laughs every Tuesday night at 7:30.
This fall has also brought in a heap of new fantasy shows. FOX’s supernatural adventure “Sleepy Hollow” premiered on September 16 and has been received with high viewership.
The show tells of Ichabod Crane’s resurrection from the Revolutionary War into the present, to find himself working with a lieutenant to solve a mystery that’s centuries old.
In “Sleepy Hollow’s” strong first episode, Crane awakens in the present day and gets arrested when he tries to explain his journey through time. Luckily, he is later saved by Lieutenant Abbie Mills, whose past experiences with the supernatural sway her to believe Crane’s bizarre story. From then on, the two pair up and work together to solve the mystery that’s been haunting their town of Sleepy Hollow.
If you want a show with a great mix of adventure, drama, and mystery, then tune in to “Sleepy Hollow” every Monday night at 8.
For fans of shows involving fangs, “The Originals” is a show to look out for. The new series is a spinoff of the popular “Vampire Diaries” and centers on the world’s original family of vampires.
Set in New Orleans, the show follows siblings Klaus, Elijah, and Rebekah Mikaelson. Klaus, who originally built New Orleans, has returned to the French Quarter to regain control over the city from his protégé, Marcel. Elijah aids his brother in the fight for the city throne, and tries to protect werewolf Hayley Marshall from the wrath of Marcel.
With vampires, werewolves, and many creatures in between, “The Originals” is perfect for any fantasy buff. The show premiered October 3 and comes on the CW every Tuesday at 7 p.m., so don’t miss another episode.
While television is exploding with new shows, a large number of shows are returning this fall.
The highly anticipated “Walking Dead” returned to AMC on October 13, starting off the new season with plenty of zombies, gore, and even a few tear-jerking moments.
The new season opens with many new members added to the old cast of post-apocalyptic survivors, which has grown to the size of a small town. With a larger group to care for, a small band of the survivors decide to travel to a nearby army shelter to get more supplies, but end up confronting a swarm of zombies instead. Back in the woods near the survivors’ camp, protagonist Rick Grimes stumbles upon a woman who appears to be one of the undead. She begs Rick to allow her and her husband to return to the camp, leaving Rick to struggle between following his logic and yielding to his compassion.
Another show returning this fall is “Supernatural”. The fantasy-drama kicked off its ninth season on the CW on October 8 with an emotion-packed premiere.
The show follows brothers Dean and Sam Winchester as they hunt down demons, monsters, and other supernatural creatures. In the first episode of the new season, Dean calls upon the help of an angel after Sam slips into a coma. The fallen angel Ezekiel agrees to help Dean, but the unorthodox method they use leads to unexpected consequences; meanwhile, another fallen angel named Castiel struggles to adjust to life as a human being.
The thrilling returns of both “The Walking Dead” every Sunday at 8 p.m.and “Supernatural” every Tuesday at 8 p.m. have pleased the shows’ fans all around, and might’ve even attracted new viewers.
However, if none of these shows appeal to you, then don’t fret; this year has many other new and recurring shows that are bound to catch your attention.
