One thing every high schooler needs in order to graduate is community service hours. For some they can feel like a drag, but for the participants of the White Station’s Key Club they can be a breeze.

The first Key club meeting that took place Friday, September 15, started off with a joke to lighten the mood. The club president Allen Wu (11) began with a description of the club: “First, no, we do not make keys,” said Wu.

The largest and oldest service club for high school students is about “opening opportunities, helping the community and becoming leaders,” according to Wu.

Unlike White Station’s Community Service Club, Key Club is much broader. It focuses on not only helping the community outside of White Station, but making leaders out of students, building their character, and connections with other people. One of the ways they do this is by going to Key club conventions throughout the country, like the one they plan to attend in Mississippi.

Key Club hopes to have a great year with volunteer opportunities including the Ronald McDonald House Charity Event, VA Hospital and the Spartan 5k.
