Peaking at the right time
Although the White Station baseball team does not receive as much student recognition as the other two main sports, football and basketball, that does not stop the Spartans from playing hard. Despite a slow start to this season, the Spartans are beginning to play more and more like a unit that could pose a threat once the playoffs start. For a team that is looking to advance to its seventh straight regional final, the improvement in performance could not have come at a better time, with a showdown with city powerhouse MUS looming on Friday. “They’re learning to play fast, better baseball and will be ready to play after missing the game today [Thursday]”, team manager Caroline Danziger (11) said.
The Friday afternoon meeting with MUS comes after a solid week that saw the Spartans defeat Central and Whitehaven while narrowly losing to Bartlett. As of April 21, the Spartans’ record stands at 8-13, and the team is gearing up for another playoff run. “I think we have the potential to do what no other team has done under Coach Walter,” Beryl Grant (12) said.
