Dillon Mitchell Committed to University of Oregon
As one of the most heavily recruited players in recent Spartan memory, football and basketball standout Dillon Mitchell (11) committed to the University of Oregon for football on Tuesday. He had other offers from Alabama, Auburn, Ohio State, and several other top football programs.
“Oregon is the best place for me and it’s the best place to advance my career,” Mitchell said.
Mitchell is the 235th ranked player on Scout.com and the 46th ranked wide receiver. According to his Hudl.com page, a website dedicated to video footage for high school sports, he runs a 4.47 40-yard dash and is listed as 6’2” and 185 pounds.
Mitchell also has basketball offers, including one from Oregon, but he has not decided whether or not he will play this sport. He even spent the summer traveling across the country with local AAU program, Team Penny-coached by former University of Memphis and NBA star Anfrenee “Penny” Hardaway. Mitchell considers Hardaway his mentor on and off the court.
One of the key triggers in Mitchell’s commitment was an official visit to Oregon last weekend where he saw 45-16 win vs. Stanford. He was taken away by Oregon’s flashy, trend-setting jerseys and their brand new $68 million football facility, but what attracted his attention most were the coaches.
“We had a good time [on the visit],” Mitchell told Oregonlive.com, “I didn’t expect to leave here and have a good relationship like I do with the coaches now. I have a good relationship with all of the coaches now.”
