As the weather gets cooler and the work just gets stressful, there’s this itch for a nice, relaxing treat. But this itch isn’t for old and known, but an all-new experience. But where can you go? Have no fear! There are a lot of new places and spots being opened in Memphis.
Sweet Eye Coffee
Located in Cordova, Tennessee, Sweet Eye Coffee is a Middle Eastern-inspired coffee shop. From the moment you walk in, the scent of rich coffee fills the atmosphere. The first thing you may notice is that there are many Dubai-flavored sweets. Turning to your right, shelves of Stanley cups or other trinkets may distract you just like me. They also have their broad selection of coffee roasters on display, offering beans from Brazil, Peru, Mexico, Colombia, El Salvador, Ethiopia and Yemen.
The menu has a variety of drinks—coffee, espresso, specialty drinks and smoothies. Their menu has something for everyone, even if you aren’t a coffee fan. Their smoothies come in tropical, strawberry banana, mixed berry, lemon mint and date banana. Their lemon mint has a fresh taste of mint mixed with a hint of citrusy sweetness. I would suggest trying it if you want to try something with a cool crisp. Cold coffee drinks like frappuccinos, iced Americanos, cold brews and Turkish coffees -which I did not have the opportunity to try. I would suggest the Turkish coffee as it is a new experience and a taste of a new culture. They also have specialty drinks like Baklava Lattes, Date Cardamom Lattes and much more. The Spanish Lattes have a sweet and bitter base with a splash of cinnamon tying the entire beverage together. The Pistachio Latte initially smells earthy and is followed by a sweet, creamy taste. Their menu also has different desserts such as a pistachio cheesecake, a chocolate-covered croissant, a rose milk cake a Dubai Chocolate cheesecake and a pistachio milk cake.
Just Love Coffee Cafe
Located on Madison Ave, Just Love Coffee Cafe is inspired by a trip to Ethiopia. When you walk in, you see their menu full of food and drinks. To the left of the menu are a display of treats. At the time I was there, quite a few people were studying or working, a good hotspot to get some work done while enjoying a tasty treat.
Just Love Coffee offers a variety of not only coffee drinks but also juices. They also have seasonal drinks for Halloween, like a Boba Boo Blast refresher, Graveyard frappuccino, Real Pumpkin Latte and Candy Apple refresher. Their menu also includes breakfast: avocado toast, bagels, burritos, a breakfast Platter, a sandwich, a taco, a Spanish Feta Womelette and a waffle. They also have a lunch menu, including BLT sandwiches, chicken quesadillas, chicken ciabattas and much more. Their menu also has sweet treats like Nanna’s cinnamon rolls, cinnamon scones and stuffed Nutella. I would suggest you try the scones as they have a sweet flavor and cinnamon.
Tous Jes Jours
On the busy street of Popular Ave, lies Tous Jes Jours. Tous Jes Jours offers a wide range of French Asian bakery items. As you walk in, you see the display of bakery items, from chocolate-filled to cheese cream-filled bread. I would suggest coming on an empty stomach, since there are quite a lot of choices. The selection of bakery items is colorful with cute designs. Although there is no specific menu of their baked goods, their website for an idea of what they have. However, in person, they have a few more choices than what appears available on their website.
The menu offers a variety of drinks from the classics to something that you wouldn’t normally see. They have blended drinks such as smoothies and frappauchinos, coffee coming in flavors such as iced lavender lattes, cafe mochas, and cold brew tonics and much more. Their Tiramisu Chocolate had a sweet, chocolatey taste in a mix of coffee to the latte. Although this drink isn’t mentioned in their online menu, it is mentioned in the store. In addition, you may see a purple drink that pops out to you on their tea menu— the ube latte. The drink tasted more like almond milk- you couldn’t taste the coffee. They do have other teas and matcha drinks such as Honey Lavender Matcha, Iced Black tea and Chamomile tea. Their bakery items do not have a specific theme, but contain unique flavor combinations with Guava Danish, Caramel Apple Pie, Almond Croissant, fruit pastry, pain au chocolat, strawberry croissant, and chocolate croissant to name a few.
