Picture this: a dynamic volleyball player who also runs her own cookie business embodying a blend of athleticism and entrepreneurship. This is the reality of Jaydes “Wavy” Piverger (12) who balances the hard work needed for both volleyball and her culinary services.
Pirverger hopes to reach a wider audience with her baked goods, wanting to highlight the happiness in baking and bring a sense of community to everyone. This can not only help her with creating lifelong business opportunities but also help her contribute to her society in many ways.
“[Baking] warms you and makes you feel better,” Piverger said. “I want to make people feel better [with my baking].”
Launching a business as a young entrepreneur can bring numerous challenges, especially when it is necessary to meet the additional demands of a volleyball player and student. Many might wonder if such a feat is achievable, but for Piverger, it is possible through effort, dedication and perseverance.
“I just try to manage my time better,” Piverger said. “Maybe … I won’t focus on my business [one day to] focus on volleyball and school, and [on the] other days, I’ll focus on cookies.”
Through her efforts to maintain a work-life balance, Piverger has experienced numerous positive changes within herself both physically and mentally. After working through volleyball and school, she has become more sensible with her time and gained a sense of responsibility.
“I have matured way faster than my peers around me because I’m focused on three things at once,” Piverger said. “I have matured because I am already learning how to have my own business and make my own money.”
Starting a business was not always easy. Many challenges were presented to Piverger when it came to maintaining the supply of her baked goods, including the overall composition of the cookies. She has continued to work to expand her skills in the bakery and in her establishment.
“Quality [of the cookies] is better, and quantity too,” Piverger said. “I am able to make more [cookies] and better for the amount I need.”
The challenges rooted in the life of a volleyball player remain significant as this particular sport can require an immense investment of both time and effort to hone and sustain one’s skills. This commitment, when combined with the time and devotion required to uphold a cookie business, calls for a distinct level of discipline and perseverance.
“I spend a lot more time in the gym than at home, where my business is, so that messes me up, but I have found ways to manage my time,” Piverger said
