One morning in 2017, as Dylan Heaston (11) gets ready for school, he goes to his father to ask to wear a pair of his vibrant socks, but they were too big for him. Putting them on, Dylan Heaston got an idea: he always loved to wear his father’s colorful socks, and he was also an artist who had a penchant for designing. Putting his love for art and funky socks together, he realized that he wanted to make his designs come to life.

“My dad was wearing colorful socks, and I really had an eye for it. … An idea came to mind to start a sock line that was comfortable for men, women, and children. That’s when DEverett Socks was born,” Dylan Heaston said.

The name DEverett Socks comes from Dylan Heaston’s first initial and middle name, and as Chief Executive Officer, he has some ideas to share about starting a business.

“It was a rocky start, but I bounced back,” Dylan Heaston said. “Honestly I didn’t know what I was doing at the time…I had to understand the business more.”

Dylan Heaston expressed that it took a lot of time and perseverance to work towards growing his business, but he never wanted to quit working towards his goal. He wanted to grow a brand for himself to show that dreams can become reality.

”I got an opportunity to start something where other people wanting to get to a point like me don’t get,” Dylan Heaston said.

Dylan Heaston, however, is not the only contributor to the business. His sister Hannah Heaston (11) plays a major role as well.

“She brings a lot of ideas to the table … and it wouldn’t be [our business] without her,” Dylan Heaston said.

Hannah Heaston’s role as the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is to provide input on sock designs and to set up vendors. Dylan Heaston believes that their relationship is already strong but has been strengthened by the demands of the business and the positive responses of customers.

“What I enjoy most is when we set up shop and see the smiles on the customers’ faces,” Hannah Heaston said.
